1/5/09 Greenwich Roundup's Campgain To Have Hearst Newspaper's Rid Greenwich Of Jim Zebora Has Been Successful - Sort Of

The Great Crusade Is Over

Jim Zebora Is No longer The Incompetent Greenwich Time Managing Editor, But He Will Report In The Regional Business Insert Hearst Newspapers Has Planned For Us.

Why Can't Hearst Newspaper Employees
Tell What Time It Is?

The Corporate Suits At Hearst Newspapers Need To Have A Talk With Greenwich Time Managing Editor Jim Zebora And His Web Master About Securing The Greenwich Time's Web Clock.

Some months ago Greenwich Blogger Chris Fountain said he happened to pull a copy of the Greenwich Time out of a recycle bin and saw that the print edition of the local rag had published the police department press release about the officer of the month, but the story never appeared online.

Since then, month after month the Greenwich Time web master has declined to publish the "Police Officer Of The Month" story online at .greenwichtime.com .

Well just like clockwork on the last day of the month of December, the Greenwich Police Department has released their "Officer Of The Month" press release and Greenwich Time Managing Editor Jim Zebora has buried the story on page 3 just above Area briefs listings.

However, it is a mystery why the Greenwich Time Web Master will publish Area briefs online, but wont publish online how Greenwich Police Officer James Smith got an award for a quick pursuit and arrest.

Our Greenwich Time / Stamford Advocate Insider Says:

We Smacked The Greenwich Time So Hard It Was Felt It At The Hearst Newspaper Corporate Headquarters.

FOR THE RECORD:

Greenwich Roundup has for access to these public records and even asked for the Sargent's report to be emailed over for instant publication, unedited in Greenwich Roundup.

However, the Greenwich Police Department has declined to do so. They only like releasing police reports to the three very compliant Greenwich Newspapers.

In fact, there is a real problem with Greenwich town employees not releasing public information fairly and equally to all Greenwich media outlets. Many times we have asked the Greenwich Board of Education to put us on their press release list, but they have consistently refused.
They only pass out their press releases to the three very compliant newspapers.

The BOE is very happy with Cub Reporter Colin Gustafson regurgitating their press releases almost word for word. Unfortunately, this attitude is costing parents and the single family homeowners of Greenwich dearly.

When Glenville Parents came to the Zebora's news crew with pictures and stories about the conditions inside their school the Zebora crew could not be bothered with such trivial matters.

When The Complacent Reporter At The Three Local Rags Didn't Care That The Results Of The Harris Survey That Was Carried Out In May And June Of This Year Were Being Kept Under Wraps By The Greenwich Board Of Education. It Was Citizen Journalist Bill Clark Who Broke The Story.....

A week after Bill Clark's investigative report Ms. Strenberg told an enraged town that she was going to jump, before she was pushed overboard. Out of all of the town's reporters only citizen journalist Bill Clark went and filed the Freedom of Information request at the BOE......

......WHEN TOWN OF GREENWICH EMPLOYEES SELECTIVELY GIVE OUT PUBLIC RECORDS TO THE TOWNS MEDIA OUTLETS THE SINGLE FAMILY HOMEOWNERS END UP PAYING THE BILL IN THE END.

TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT IS GOOD GOVERNMENT.....

.....The Last Word On This Subject:
There is a time honored tradition in the American press corps, that when government officials allowed only certain reporters were to cover the event. All reporters boycotted the event until the excluded reporter was allowed access.

Moreover, all of the media companies reported about the reporter, being excluded.

The public's right to know what was going on was paramount.

If Greenwich Roundup was ever given public information in press release, that town employees refused to give to the Greenwich Time you would read about the exclusion right here.

We would not bend over and prostitute ourselves like Greenwich Time managing editor Jim Zebora does when he has cub reporter Colin Gustafson regurgitate a BOE press release or when Martin Cassidy reprints the Greenwich Police Department police blotter.

Zebora knows that town employees exclude Greenwich's citizen journalists from receiving the press releases and reports that his lazy mainstream reporters get daily.

The fact is that Zebora is deathly afraid of citizen journalists getting the same access to public documents that his lackluster reporters receive.

Zebora knows that Greenwich Roundup would do the right thing and stand up and condemn Greenwich town employees if they ever excluded his mainstream reporters, whose only job qualification is that they have a pulse and be able to run a town press release through the spell checker before hitting the publish button..

Why would we stand up for Zebora's amateurish reporters?

Because Greenwich Roundup is not complacent like the Greenwich Citizen, Greenwich Post and the Greenwich Time. We are a lean mean truth telling machine that lets the chips fall where they may.

And that is why Greenwich Roundup and other local citizen journalist web sites are growing at a double digit rates and the local newspaper web sites are struggling at best.

Did you just get up this morning and think you might take a look at local Greenwich Time headlines, before catching the 8:15 into the city.

Well if your trains on time you can be to work by nine, and maybe by then the Greenwich Time Web Master might have the news up about your town.

When is Greenwich Time managing editor going to stop treating Greenwich's online news news readers like bald headed step children?

Zebora basically can't be bothered with providing his online customers with up to the minute local news, because he is much to busy preparing those boring "HARD HITTING" state editorials that he gets from the public access channels on cable TV.

Well maybe Jim Zebora will get Tuesday's local news up by Wednesday morning at the latest.

Maybe we should go visit the CT Post website and see if they got Greenwich news stories up yet. Usually they get Greenwich news stories up a the night before.

UPDATE 8:19 AM:

The Greenwich Time Is Stating To Come To Life

Maybe Greenwich Time Managing Editor Jim Zebora should hire Greenwich Roundup To Wake Up His Lazy Reporters Every Morning.

Greenwich Residents Are Starting To Wonder If Zebora Is Managing One Of Those Old Afternoon Daily Newspapers.....

COMMENT:

Why Hasn't Hearst Newspapers Given Greenwich Residents Any Local Coverage Of The Madoff Ponzie Scheme ?

Why Hasn't Greenwich Time Managing Editor Jim Zebora Not Asigned A Reporter To Report On Walter Noel And Greenwich Fairfield?
PLEASE SEE THE HAMILTON AVENUE NEWS STORY THAT THE HEARST NEWSPAPERS HAS FAILED TO COVER:

FOR THE RECORD:

Greenwich Roundup was the only news organization that reported about the water once again leaking at Hamilton Avenue School. Clueless Hearst Newspaper Editors (Don Harrison) And Jim Zebora (Greenwich Time), as well as, the Greenwich Post editor have ignored HAS parents complaints that the modular are once again leaking.

PLEASE SEE:

THE MODULARS ARE HAVING WATER AND ELECTRICAL PROBLEMSFIRE ALARM HAS BEEN SET OFF DURING THE SCHOOL DAY!!!!

....The Hamilton Avenue School Principal is so self absorbed and concerned with her image and her career as an administrator, she has lost perspective. God help the children of Hamilton Avenue School as they are shoved in a school that is not up to code.

Where is Ken West the building maintenance supervisor?
How is this trailer park permitted to stay open?

Chris Fountains News And Real Estate Blog "For What It's Worth" Is All Over The Madoff Scandal While His Former Employer The Greenwich Post Has Not Published One Article"

If the Times is here, can The Daily News and The Inquirer be far behind?

Why Is It That The New York Times Company Can Get A Reporter Up To Greenwich To File An In Depth Story On Madoff Middleman Walter Noel, But Hearst Newspapers Can't Get A Greenwich Citizen Or Greenwich Time Reporter To Cover The Story?

As Usual, Greenwich Bloggers And Out Of Town Newspapers Are The Only Ones Adequately Cover Major Greenwich News Stories With National Implications.

Greenwich Time Editor Jim Zebora Is Once Again A Sleep At The Switch As Bloggers And Out Of Town Newspapers Beat Out The Greenwich Time ......
Are Greenwich's Failed Mainstream Newspapers Going To Get Screwed Over By Local Bloggers And Citizen Journalists?

Does Greenwich's two free so-called newspapers and the daily local rag provide any value what-so-ever that can't be replaced by real citizen journalists?
Can Greenwich's fired traditional editors and reporters at "Our Greenwich" really become real citizen journalists like Bill Clark and Chris Fountain?
Why does Greenwich Time managing editor Jim Zebora always play to Hearst Newspaper's multitude of weaknesses.
The clueless Greenwich Time editor needs to understand that quality matters and they are not delivering what town residents want.
The Greenwich Time editors are using an old business model that says we will make loads of cash, because we are selling town residents things something they can't easily get elsewhere.
This Greenwich Time strategy worked, back in pre-Internet days. In fact, it did work, which is why the daily newspaper used it.......
.....For example:
Here at Greenwich Roundup, and at other Greenwich blogs, we are constantly scooping the local newspapers with exclusive or breaking town news stories.
Hard-news reporting—covering the actual facts of all sides of a Greenwich story—remains the "killer app" for our local newspaper.
But clueless Greenwich Time editors like, Jim Zebora are not making proper use of their structural advantages - they constantly publish town press releases with out ever questioning authority.
Greenwich Time editors and reporters are afraid to rock the boat and to let the chips fall where they may. No one reads a Greenwich Time story and goes WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING !!!
Greenwich's well paid full-time journalists in supposedly competing newsrooms are not properly covering our town.If Greenwich's newspapers truly need to start competing for stories - it is essential to their survival.
STRANGE BUT TRUE.....

When one door closes, another opens up, those with an oracular predisposition say.
That just may be the case for Greenwich's hedge fund industry, which, having done just what it is not supposed to do - lose money in a down market - is suspending redemptions and closing funds and in general shrinking under the economic tidal waves it helped create.

The opening door for the hedgies? Weddings of same-sex couples from wealthy ZIP codes in neighboring New York, those seeking the tony cachet of high-end Greenwich nuptials to accompany the nouveau reality of a Connecticut-sanctioned marriage.

It's been nothing for a Greenwich dad to drop a quarter or half mil at the Delamar to give young Ashleigh the wedding day she has always dreamed about ...... Blah ..... Blah ...... Blah ....... Blah ........

What The Hell Is This Guy Talking About ??????
....The big drawback, however, may be crowds like we had for Powerball, when thousands of New Yorkers rode the train or drove to town for tickets that were not available to them at home.
But the hedgies may be able to help here as well. What could be more event-driven than selling pencils from a tin cup to those waiting in line to fill out their marriage license applications?

Managing Editor Jim Zebora Is So Funny In His
Hard Hitting Greenwich Time Editorials
Tomorrows Hard Hitting Greenwich Time Editorial:

It May Be Controversial But Unlike Others In Greenwich
I Really Enjoy Shoveling Snow !!!!!
Greenwich Roundup Just Had A heart To Heart Conversation With The Man Who Had Been The Publisher Of The Greenwich Time For 30 Years.

Just a little while ago the phone rang at my home and on the other end phone was Joe Pisiani.Mr. Pisani indicated that he was not happy with the reporting about him at Greenwich Roundup and the letters from Greenwich Roundup readers that had been sent about him.
I explained to Mr. Pisani that many Greenwich residents had been wronged by his staff while he was publisher of the Greenwich Time. Out of all the persons discussed Mr. Pisani said that he had not even spoken to any of the a grieved persons and was not aware of the problems they had with Greenwich Time, because his office was in Stamford when he was the editor of the paper.
Mr. Pisani did admit to speaking with and knowing Bogger And Citizen Journalist Bill Clark and said they had a few disagreements over the years.......
.....copies of the radio transmissions and 911 calls that occurred during the illegal police raid and search Martin said his superiors at the Greenwich Time told him not to cover the story further.
Mr. Pisani claimed to know nothing of this, and asked did you speak to Bruce Hunter.
I told him that I had only talked to Martin Cassidy and Greenwich Time managing editor Jim Zebora.
I also told him that his staff told me they thought they had reported enough on the incident and that if there was more to say about the matter I should send it in as a letter to the editor.
I sent in my letter and it was never acknowledged or published by the Greenwich Time.
Mr. Pisani said he was sorry for what had happened and that it was not his fault or the fault of others like Susie Costaregni and some of the other former reporters at the Our Greenwich Blog.
I explained that many felt that his three decades of leadership at the Greenwich Time had created a paper that was insensitive to the common man.
I pointed how farmer Del Zanett had be poorly treated and covered while Joe Pisani was editor of the Greenwich Time and after he no longer worked there.
I even challenged Joe Pisani to prove me wrong and to get his former Greenwich Time News Team together at Our Greenwich and to cover what is happening at Purdy Farm up on King Street......
Mr. Pisani then said he felt that some of the emails from readers had sent to Greenwich Roundup had been very unfair to Ms. Costaregni and others at Our Greenwich. He felt the emails had unfairly infered that he was having an affair of some sort with Ms. Costaregni.
I told Mr. Pisani that if he and his reporters at Our Greenwich would honestly look into what had happened at Purdy Farm. I would publicly apologize and post at Greenwich Roundup that I was wrong about the character of Mr. Pisani and his fellow reporters at Our Greenwich.

Joe Pisani said that he came from working class parents and that he honestly for the misfortune that has over taken Del. Mr. Pisani said that he did not know much about what had occurred at Purdy Farm......
So the ball is now in Joe Pisani
and Our Greenwich's court.

Will these reporters go out and get a story and show up their old masters at the Greenwich Time were wrong to have fired them?

Or will they prove that all of those Greenwich Roundup readers were right all along about Joe Pisani and the others that used to work at the Greenwich Time.

Maybe All Of This Bogging About The Crappy Reporting About The Greenwich Time Has Helped The Greenwich Time's Online Gains During The Past Six Months. As Greenwich Bloggers like Chris Fountain, Bill Clark And Greenwich Roundup Have Played Beat The Press
With The Greenwich Time,
Their Links Have Increased Interest In Local News And Provided Free Advertising To The Greenwich Time And Other Local Mainstream Papers.
Now You Know Why The Corporate Suits At Hearst Newspapers Look At The Greenwich Time Web Logs And Smile at all of That Internet Traffic Sent From Greenwich Bloggers.
Think About It.

What Have The Corporate Suits At Hearst Media Done Except For Firing Pisani And His Circle Of Insiders That Would Account For A 22.13 in Online And Print Gains.

What Else Has Changed At The Greenwich Time Except That The Newspaper Has Moved Away From Hyper Local Reporting And Started To Combine Web Site Features With The Connecticut Post.
The Sad Part Is That.....

Jim Zebora Is Probably Learning About The Favorable Audit Bureau of Circulation Report Today From Greenwich Roundup.

Managing Editor Jim Zorba, Has For the last Four Or Five Weeks Has Been Filling In For Ex-Greenwich Time Editor David Warner, Who Replaced Ex-Greenwich Time Editor Joe Pisani last May.

It's Not Like There Has Been A Cohesive Management Structure At The Greenwich Time That Could Have Orchestrated This Circulation Turn Around.

Years Of Greenwich Time Losses Were Reversed only During The Last 180 Days, Because Citizen Journalists And Bloggers Created Renewed Interest In Local News And Challenged The Mainstream Daily.

The Greenwich Time Has Learned That Competition Is Good.
Blogger Chris Fountain Is Perfectly Polite To
Greenwich Time Managing Editor Jim Zorba
Going boldly where no editor has dared tread before.
Greenwich Time runs a hard-hitting editorial on property taxes today. It starts off with the usual liberal lament that Greenwich doesn't pay enough taxes and Waterbury too much then, perhaps sensing that its readers might not agree with that proposition, switches gears and rails againt wasteful spending: that ought to appeal to these damn skinflint Yankees!
I was under the obviously mistaken impression that editorial writers took a position and then defended it. Our local paper differs, and has instead produced another soggy opinion piece that says and concludes nothing. I don't purchase the Greenwich Time so I suppose I have no cause to complain about the salary paid to its editor, but talk about wasteful spending ....
10/07/08 Greenwich Time News Lnks Or Managing Editor Jim Zebora Tries To Go After Greenwich Bloggers

Our letter writers really put it on the lineBy Jim Zebora

Article Launched: 10/07/2008 08:34:58 AM EDT

With all due respect to bloggers, people who write to newspapers are just the best. Our letter writers show the courage to share their views with the world - whether opining about the financial bailout, the presidential election, downtown parking or Henrietta the turkey - and they do so with their identities known to all.

Comment To Jim Zebora:

With all do respect to editorial suits who are just now beginning to recognize the power of Bloggers and citizen journalists. Jim Zebora is being less than genuine in his editorial. Jim Zebora knows damn well who Greenwich Diva is and how Neil "I Won't Publish The Fake Beach Passes In My Desk Drawer" Vigdor screwed her over in the Greenwich Time.

Jim Zebora knows damn well knows who Greenwich Gossip is and how former Greenwich Time owner Bill Rowe placed a ban, that is still honored today, on any of his letters every appearing in the Greenwich Time.

Jim Zebora knows damn well who StationStops is and how his comments were removed from and he was locked out of Hearst Media message boards, because he complained that news websites had did a poor job of reporting on the mugging at the Riverside Walgreen's.
Jim Zebora knows everyone at Our Greenwich, because he was involved in firing most of them from the Greenwich Time newsroom.

Jim Zebora knows that For What It's Worth was fired because a bunch of real estate advertisers came into the Greenwich Post wanting him fired, because he said the Greenwich Real Estate market is going to hell in a hand basket. Jim Zebora would never consider hiring the best real estate columnist in Greenwich, because he is afraid he will have to meet with angry advertisers from Coldwell Banker.

Jim Zebora damn well knows who Greenwich Roundup is. We have had more than a few talks with Mr. Zebora.

Jim Zebora knows that as of January of this year the Greenwich Police Department had 80 Civilian Complaints in the previous 24 Months. That's about one complaint every 8 0r nine days. Jim Zebora knows that more that 98% of the complaints are routinely found to be unfounded.

Jim Zebora knows that this were getting so bad that the so-called "GPD Internal Affairs Investigator" also known as, Captain Michael "The Judge Says I Was Illegally Appointed" Pacewicz was finding the cases unfounded without even bothering to talk to complainants or their witnesses.......
Jim Zebora Continues:

It's a more civilized way of making a statement than hiding behind a conjured-up screen name.Writers to Greenwich Time tend to be pretty intelligent folks, too, and I learn something from them every day. It's especially heartening to see the informed, thoughtful give-and-take on this part of the editorial page.

Reasonable people can and do disagree, and in their letters to the editor they do so in what I believe is an extraordinarily civilized way.

Unlike many blog-posters.
Comment To Jim Zebora:

Jim Zorba Seems to confuse civilized with complacent.

Jim "If I Can't Beat The Bloggers - Then I Will Attack Them" Zebora, probably thinks that it is uncivilized when Bill Clark calls his paper the "Yellowich Time", but you never hear of blogs being complacent.

No one says things like Greenwich "Yellow" Diva, Greenwich "Yellow" Gossip, Station "Yellow" Stops, For "Yellow" It's Worth, Our "Yellow" or Greenwich "Yellow" Roundup.

Jim Zebora knows that before anyone goes to the weekly newspapers or the bloggers with a story they go to the "Yellowch Time" first.

The "Yellowich Time" gets first shot at virtually every news story in town and they often bungle thier chance.

When Hamilton Avenue mothers went to Jim Zebora's crew complaining that the modular classrooms were leaking they were REPEATEDLY ignored.

When those same Hamilton Avenue Mothers came to Greenwich Roundup we started publishing posts like this in February until Betty Sternberg was forced to shut down the modulars in March.

Please See:
There was not one previous article in the Greenwich Time

When Glenville Parents came to the Zebora crew with pictures and stories about the conditions inside thier school the Zorba crew could not be bothered with such trivial matters.

Please See:

When the "New And Improved" Hamilton Avenue Modulars were leaking AGAIN, the Zorba Crew once again could not be bothered.
Please See:

When a Greenwich parent got pictures of three heavily damaged classrooms in the "NEW" 30 Million Dollar Ham Ave School the Zebora crew was not interested and still has not fully reported whats going on inside that building.

Please See:
Perhaps Jim Zebora is right that we are a bit edgy and somewhat rude when Greenwich Roundup publishes a post like......

But isn't rude for Colin Gustafson to put up an August headline that insults the intelegence of every taxpayer in Greenwich?
By Colin Gustafson
August 08, 2008

A variety of unresolved facilities issues - most of them easy to fix - are preventing the Hamilton Avenue School from receiving sign-offs from inspectors necessary for students to return to the building, the school board told parents last night.
Broken glass needs to be repaired, as well as cracks in some of the floor-level surfaces that must be patched. .... Blah ..... Blah ...... blah ..... Blah ..... Blah ..... Ham Ave Is Opening On Time !!!!!!!
What does Jim Zebora want us to do, say something nice and polite like......

"Excuse me dear kind Sir , If I may Mr Zebora, I beg to differ with Colin and think that he might be only posibly getting one side of the story, because there are no quotes from parents, students, teachers or taxpayers who must pay for this 3o Million Dollar fiasco."

"Wouldn't it be prudent for Colin to first listenen to the BOE and then start listening to other voices in this civilized community, oh dear Sir Zebora."
Jim Zebora Continues:

Local-level discourse reveals the fabric of our community. This year, we have seen voluminous dialogues on subjects such as the ad hoc Wiffle ball field in Cos Cob, the cupcake controversy in the Greenwich school system, and of course dear Henrietta, the Tod's Point personality recently relocated under the state Department of Environmental Protection's turkey - or is it citizen? - protection program.

"That turkey has just as much a right to live there and play as any of us do; that is her home," one man wrote, urging that Henrietta be left alone.

"This turkey came running at me and attacked me," the letter directly below read. "It had me backed up against a rock wall." She vowed to stay away from Tod's Point until Henrietta was gone.
Comment For Jim Zebora:

Greenwich Roundup and other bloggers will admit that we found it hard to get worked up about "Henery/Henrietta" the turkey. Jim Zebora's news crew clearly owned this important earth shattering story that is affecting all of the taxpayers of Greenwich.

Clearly on stories that really matter to the single family home owners of Greenwich the so-called newspaper was "Behind The Times" to the point that many in town said Zebora's news crew was clueless.

To this day Jim Zebora and his crew referes to the "cupcakes controversy" while Bloggers say things like "lack of integrity"

When the Board Of Education Press Release went out Zorba's crew ran it through the spell checker and published it as news. Like most BOE press releases it was published without any questions being asked.

Here Is How The Greenwich Time Reported The So-called "Cupcake Controversey"
This Is How Greenwich Roundup Reported The "Lack Of Integrity Issue" from day one:
For the Record:
Greenwich Roundup and a few other bloggers have repeatedly asked to be placed on the Board Of Education's Press Release Email List, just like the Greenwich Citizen, Greenwich Post and the Greenwich Time.

The Board Of Education has not honored these public document requests, because Greenwich Bloggers are not complacent.

Is the Board Of Education being civilized to Greenwich Bloggers?

There is a strong long held tradition in Journalism that if a reporter or a news gathering organization is excluded from a press conference or press kit, then all reporters would report on the exclusion and boycott the offending groups press conference.

Public officials who wanted to manipulate news gathering and reporters were exposed and told, "Guess what if you exclude this reporter, then there will be no press conference, because no reporter will show up."

It was the only honorable and civilized thing fellow reporters to do.

Greenwich Roundup exposed how reporter Chris Fountain was let go over first amendment issues. Jim Zebora and The Greenwich Time were very brutish and uncivilized to turn a blind eye to the troubles of a fellow reporter.

When Sarah Littman was let go at the Greenwich Time, the uncivilized Greenwich Bloggers were there supporting this reporter.

Maybe, Jim Zebora should go ask citizen journalist Bill "I Was The Only Reporter Asking For The Two Month Old Document" Clark how many hoops he had to jump through to get a copy of the school survey rating Betty Sternberg's performance.

Jim Zebora has forgotten the number one rule in Journalism.

"A great reporter afflicts the comfortable and comforts the afflicted."

The Greenwich Time is Way Too Comfortable And Is Now Crying Because They Are Being Afflicted By The New Media Consisting Of Citizen Journalists And Bloggers.

David Warner thouht he would enjoy a comfortable 30 years in complacent Greenwich and then retire with a big swan song like Joe Pisani did.

But the one thing that Ex-Greenwich Time Editor David Warner didn't count on was a bunch of feed up bloggers in complacent Greenwich.

Mr. Warner was only able to take the heat of Citizen Journalists for about 100 days.
